Consonno, the abandoned amusement park in Italy

We went to an abandoned amusement park near Lake Como, Italy. It was busy, as there were lot’s of people also exploring this ghost town!

Consonno, the amusement park, started when a man named Count Mario Bagno wanted to build an amusement park for grown-ups. In 1962, he bought all of the land of a tiny medieval town for farmers, named Consonno. He then destroyed the entire town except for the church, the priests house, and the cemetery. During the process of building his dream park, Mario kept building things and then demolishing them because he did not like it. There were even plans to make a race track! The total cost was an estimated $5 million!!! When the park was almost complete, the main road to Milan (a big city nearby) got washed away after a big storm. Mario rebuilt the road two more times but people saw that the road would keep being damaged and hence, unsafe. The amusement park was closed and abandoned. In 2007, a thousand people went to Consonno and covered it in graffiti and trash therefore destroying Consonno even more. Over the years, more and more people have contributed to the decay of the park, which you can see on the pictures below. (There was even an old truck that is falling apart).

I really liked Consonno because you have to try and imagine what it would look like if it was not falling apart and covered in graffiti. We took many pictures of Consonno. Here are some below:
