Berlin, Germany
We stayed three nights in Berlin, Germany. We took a two hour plane trip from Helsinki to Berlin. We arrived in Berlin at around midnight and took a bus to the tram and then took a tram and went to the hotel that we stayed at. We got at the hotel at almost 1:00 in the morning!! We were all super tired. We woke up and went into the city. First we bought tickets for the Hop-on Hop-off, which is a double decker that provides a tour of the city. We got on the two hour bus ride which toured the west Berlin. We got of at the famous Potsdamer Platz. We ate lunch and then saw Checkpoint Charlie. We went to topography of terror. It explained all about the Nazi’s and what they did and why. I think that it was really interesting and also sad about what happened in Germany while the Nazi’s were in power. We finished the day with a nice, local restaurant. We went to bed with a full and happy belly.
On our second day in Berlin we got on one of the buses of the hop-on hop-off that took us to the east Berlin side. We got off at the longest standing stretch of the Berlin wall. It was around 1.3 Kilometers. Its called the east side gallery because it had paintings and graffiti. We went on some more buses that eventually led us to lunch. We walked through the famous Tiergarten park (which used to be a hunting ground in 1500s!!) and then went to the Reichstag which is a building that got destroyed during World War II (which happened to end in Berlin!) and you can walk up this glass dome on the top and at the top you can pretty much see all of Berlin. We got audio tours that told us about all the buildings. We came down and then we got dinner and ate it on the balcony of the hotel.
Although it was sad to see and learn all the things that happened in Berlin, It was a beautiful scenery and a fun city to explore.
