Things to do in Breckenridge, Colorado (USA)

Breckenridge (called Breck by locals!) is a town in the famous Rocky mountains of Colorado. It’s mainly know for the amazing skiing opportunities in the winter. We have a cozy condo that’s ski-in and have experienced Breckenridge year round throughout the years we have had the condo. Hence we know that Breck has many other fun things to do besides skiing! Here is a handful of my favorite things to do in Breck:

  1. We love hiking!! I personally love hiking in the fall when the aspens on the mountainside look like fire blazing through the evergreens. Here are some hikes we recommend:

    1. Bakers tank hike - from Boreas Pass trail head, it’s a 2.5 mile to the tank through the forest and you can take the Boreas pass road back making it a 6 mile hike. The views are amazing!!!!

    2. Sawmill Creek - Easy and nice hike from downtown Breck. It runs by the river and ends at the Sawmill Creek Reservoir. A perfect spot for fishing.

    3. Peaks Trail: strenuous 10 mile hike from Breckenridge to Frisco.

    4. And make sure you visit Isak Heartstone! He is a troll (aka a giant wooden statue) here in Breck and made by the famous danish artist Thomas Dambo. We saw some of his other amazing statues in Copenhagen (the famous Forgotten Giants). Quick fun fact: he got the name ‘Isak Heartstone’ because local girls found a heart shaped stone and gave it to the artist Thomas Dambo while he was building the statue. The artist placed it in Isak, hence “heart stone”. This is a very easy hike starting from the Ice rink parking lot.

  2. You want to do some shopping?? Sure thing! Visit downtown Breckenridge to see some cute stores. There are also many amazing coffee shops and dining options.

  3. Pay a visit to Breckenridge Stables! They offer horseback riding in the local forests in the summer and sleigh rides in the winter.

  4. Love biking?!? Rent some mountain bikes and have a blast trying some of the different trails in Breck! We recommend Christy Sports. They offer bikes in the summer and ski equipment in the winter.

  5. In the winter, besides skiing, snow shoeing and cross country skiing, a fun activity for kids is all the sledding option in town!!!! There is an amazing sledding hill called Carter Park. From the bottom of the hill, it does not look steep, but from the top, the hill looks super steep!

  6. How ‘bout some fishing? We have had a lot of fun going to Sawhill Creek Reservoir! I even caught a beautiful fish there! It also has a shady path that goes all around the Reservoir.

This is the Bakers’ Tank.

This is the Bakers’ Tank. There is a wonderful, moderate loop that goes to this Tank. There used to be a Train Track right beside the tank. The big red tube on the side would go down when the train stops and fill it up with fuel. The longest straight stretch of the railroad is about 0.6 miles!!
