For this part of our trip, we stayed in a farm house on the outskirts of Copenhagen - the farm had chickens and sheep, which we kids loved! As soon as we got to the house, after driving from Fons (a tiny city we stayed at the night before) the girls started playing with the chickens.

The next day we drove to the nearest train station and took a train to Copenhagen. We walked around the city and saw the Royal Palace, had a typical Danish lunch, went to the Kastellet, saw the throngs of tourists at The Little Mermaid and checked out the gardens at Rosenborg Castle. After that, we rode around on electric scooters and peeked at the Tivoli Gardens. It was a hot and fun day!

The next day we got up and had breakfast before discussing what we would do that day. We decided to go to Roskilde Viking Ship Museum. The first building housed the rope man’s workshop - it had ropes made from all sorts of things, like seal rind, horse hair, hemp, etc and the old sailor was a great storyteller! After that, we went to building to make our own toy boats, followed by a tour around the boatyard. There we got to meet one of the master ship builders and ask questions about how they make Viking ships out of wood by hand. After that we saw the original five Viking ships that the Vikings sank in the year 1070 to protect the Roskilde fjord from enemies. We spent almost seven hours at that Viking Ship Museum! This was by far one of our favorite adventures for the whole family!
