Two months to go: our current state of preparedness

This trip has been quite an undertaking. Selling our house. Preparing school for kids. Figuring out detailed travel plans - dozens of places to stay, dozens of planes/trains/cars, weather & cost considerations, etc.

So where are we at today?

  • House under contract: woot! (and halfway packed up!)

  • Travel: we have our big idea for one year (one season each in Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia & New Zealand, and Japan). Our first month and a half planned, with a ‘bookend’ longhaul travel leg planned for December. We need to keep filling in the plan, but it’s also getting fun to explore the different possibilities. And we’ve also learned that we each need to devote at least a day a week to travel research, planning (and staying organized).

  • World Schooling for Kids: good initial plan in place, but still a lot of details to work out. We’re starting to slow down and involve the kids more in cooking together, planning details of our trip and finishing up the school year; I’m sure we’ll keep shifting to slow down once we’re on the trip.

Next up:

  • Nail down kids’ world schooling curriculum

  • Figure out the second half of of the Europe leg and onwards

  • Continue closing down the house

  • Start packing for the trip. Our goal is 5 pieces of luggage, mainly backpacks. And perhaps some carry on luggages.
